History

A picturesque village perched on top of a calcair piton, at the top of which is an elegant Renaissance style château.
Its facade is lit up by mullion windows, but the palace remains imposing by its sheer stature, due to the massive medieval fortification it rests upon, which had the role of impressing any potential assailants.

It was built by Henri de Rovilhasc on the ancient feudal dungeon dating back to the 12th c., between 1539 and 1544. Very damaged during the Revolution and then abandoned, it was not until 1929 that Vayson de Pradenne began to bring it back to life until 1939.
Unfortunately, in August 1944, the German troops set fire to the building.

Nowadays parts of the château, in particular the pretty Chapel Notre Dame la Brune, which has some classified 13th c. frescoes, can be visited.

Managed by an association, the Château also plays host, over the summer months, to cultural festivities (Historical and Archaeological study centres).

Another 'must-see' in the village centre is the Romanic Church of St Jean-Baptiste.

Close to the village there is also the Benedictine Monastery of Ste Madeleine (1981). Of 'romano-provençal' style, it hosts the usual convent locations; the small cloister, the big cloister, the church, the hostelry, the library, the bakery...

From the top of the mount there is the most sumptuous view over the Mont Ventoux, the Dentelles de Montmirail and the Haut-Comtat.
